Member for Autism Speaks 400 at Dover
International Speedway

William Freedman of Emerson, N.J. was selected by NAPA’s Eastern Division to be the Honorary Pit Crew Member for Sunday’s running of the Autism Speaks 400 at Dover International Speedway. Freedman was joined by his business partner Joseph Cupoli as well as Christopher Agostino and Norman Carpenter from NAPA’s New Jersey Distribution Center. They all joined Freedman as a part of NAPA’s new program for valued customers and clients at select NASCAR Sprint Cup races.

“This is the first time I have ever been to a NASCAR event,” said Freedman. “It was such a wonderful experience. I never would have dreamed I would have gotten this close to see all the drivers and crew members. It’s been very interesting.”

The New Jersey Distribution Center hosted a bus trip down to the Dover race to watch NAPA Sprint Cup Series driver Michael Waltrip in action. When Freedman was given the Honorary Pit Crew Member honor, he wanted Cupoli, Agostino and Carpenter to take part in the once-in-a-lifetime experience with him.

“This is unbelievable,” said Cupoli of Clifton, N.J. “I can’t believe all of this.”

As part of the Honorary Pit Crew Member program, Freedman met NAPA driver Michael Waltrip and joined the two-time Daytona 500 champion in front of a packed house of guests at the NAPA Race Day Experience. He was given an official NAPA AUTO PARTS crew shirt by Waltrip who then autographed the shirt for Freedman. From there, Freedman and his group were escorted to the NAPA hauler, ate lunch with the crew and participated in driver introductions. Freedman also had a photo taken with Waltrip by his decal located on the No. 55 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota Camry. He and his group then concluded their day by watching the race from the NAPA Racing pit box with crew chief Bootie Barker.

“This is unbelievable,” said Cupoli of Clifton, N.J. “I can’t believe all of this.”

Freedman has been in the automotive industry for over 25 years. He and Cupoli own P and A Auto Parts. The company is comprised of 13 NAPA AUTO PARTS stores in northern New Jersey. Despite the tough economic climate, their business is doing well.

“I think the success of our company can be attributed to our aggressiveness,” elaborated Freedman. “We just continue to grow and gain business in our marketplace.”

This season at 18 NASCAR Sprint Cup events where NAPA is hosting its popular Race Day Experience, a guest will be chosen based on different criteria determined by the NAPA management from that region. The Honorary Pit Crew Member program will take place at upcoming hospitality events at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (June 28), Chicagoland Speedway (July 11), Indianapolis Motor Speedway (July 26), Watkins Glen International (August 9), Michigan International Speedway (August 16), Bristol Motor Speedway (August 22), Atlanta Motor Speedway (September 6), Richmond International Raceway (September 12), Kansas Speedway (October 4), Texas Motor Speedway (November 8) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (November 22).
