AVONDALE, Ariz. – Loren Hills of Coolidge, Ariz. was named NAPA's Honorary Pit Crew Member (HPCM) for Saturday night's running of the Subway Fast Fit 600 at the Phoenix International Raceway. It was the third time this season that the prestigious honor was given out to a valuable member of the NAPA AUTO PARTS business community.
Hills is a second-generation owner and operator of The Tire Factory located in Coolidge, Ariz. His family opened The Tire Factory in 1978 and in 1996, Hills and his wife Shelly decided to purchase the business. From there, he expanded its square footage and is proud that it remains extremely busy during these tough economic times.
"Hard work," says Hills is what has led to his success.
"NAPA has stood behind me the whole way and has been extremely helpful," commented Hills. "NAPA has provided my business with great service, parts and prices."
During his trip to the Phoenix International Raceway, Hills was joined by his son Niklas for the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. When they arrived at the NAPA Race Day Experience, they got to take part in both Michael Waltrip's and Martin Truex Jr.'s appearances at the hospitality event. Truex recognized Hills in front of 350 NAPA AUTO PARTS fans. He and his guest were then taken to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage area where they got a personal tour of the NAPA team hauler and pit road by Michael Waltrip Racing's Rick Wainright. They joined the NAPA team for dinner and then participated in the pre-race activities that included a photo opportunity at the No. 56 Toyota that showcased a decal in his honor on the car's C-post.
"This whole experience has been awesome," Hills elaborated. "It's been great to be able to be up close to these cars and then to see my name on the NAPA car has been pretty awesome. I've texted a few people to tell them about it. It's so cool."
For the second year in a row at NASCAR Sprint Cup events where NAPA is hosting its popular Race Day Experience, a guest will be chosen based on different criteria determined by the NAPA management from that region. The Honorary Pit Crew Member program is taking place at upcoming hospitality events at Talladega Superspeedway (April 25), Infineon Raceway (June 20), New Hampshire Motor Speedway (June 27), Chicagoland Speedway (July 10), Watkins Glen International (Aug. 8), Michigan International Speedway (Aug. 15), Bristol Motor Speedway (Aug. 21), Atlanta Motor Speedway (Sept. 5), Richmond International Raceway (Sept. 11), Dover International Speedway (Sept. 26), Kansas Speedway (Oct. 3), Texas Motor Speedway (Nov. 7) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (Nov. 21).
