BROOKLYN, Mich. – NAPA AUTO PARTS is proud to announce that Bill Fox of Lake Orion, Mich., was selected by NAPA’s Detroit management team to be the Honorary Pit Crew Member for driver Martin Truex Jr. during yesterday's Sprint Cup race at Michigan International Speedway. NAPA Detroit used the unique opportunity to honor Fox for being a loyal NAPA AUTO PARTS technician.
Fox is a huge NASCAR fan and has attended seven NASCAR races in the past, but none of them compare to what he experienced yesterday. The honoree was shocked when he found out about the biggest element of the program – his name would be prominently displayed on the No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota that Truex was driving in the Carfax 400.
“This experience has been unbelievable,” said Fox. “I had no idea that they would put my name on the car. That was just shocking! Plus, I have never been able to get this close to so many drivers. I have met Michael Waltrip before, but it was great to see him again because he is so nice. I got to meet our new NAPA driver Martin Truex Jr. too. I also got to see Richard Petty, Joey Logano and Ryan Newman when they were going to the drivers' meeting.”
Fox has enjoyed being an automobile technician for the past 22 years. Nineteen of those have been with North Hill Marathon Auto Service Center in Rochester, Mich. The family-owned business has been in operation since 1973 and strives to provide customers with professional and courteous service. Fox believes whole heartedly in his company's philosophy and is extremely dedicated. He constantly works to improve his own skills by attending NAPA-sponsored training programs. His main area of expertise is brake repair and on average, he does over 18 brake jobs per week.
“I enjoy my job and like the challenge of getting the job done right the first time,” elaborated Fox. “I really appreciate having the opportunity to take NAPA's training programs because it lets me know about the new technology that's coming out. It just helps me get better at what I do.”
WFox brought Dennis Wood as his guest to take part in his special day. When they arrived at the Michigan International Speedway, they were invited to the NAPA Race Day Experience. NAPA's at-track VIP hospitality event enabled them to participate in meet and greet appearances by Michael Waltrip and Martin Truex Jr. The driver of the No. 56 NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota made Fox's honor official by presenting the special guest with a team crew shirt. Fox and his guest were then treated to a personal tour of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage area, the NAPA team hauler and pit road by Michael Waltrip Racing's Rick Wainright. They enjoyed having lunch with NAPA team and participated in pre-race activities. Their day concluded by watching Truex drive the NAPA AUTO PARTS Toyota to an eighth-place finish.
For the second year in a row at NASCAR Sprint Cup events where NAPA is hosting its popular Race Day Experience, a guest will be chosen based on different criteria determined by the NAPA management from that region. The Honorary Pit Crew Member program is taking place at upcoming hospitality events at Bristol Motor Speedway (Aug. 21), Atlanta Motor Speedway (Sept. 5), Richmond International Raceway (Sept. 11), Dover International Speedway (Sept. 26), Kansas Speedway (Oct. 3), Texas Motor Speedway (Nov. 7) and Homestead-Miami Speedway (Nov. 21).
