CORNELIUS, N.C. – No. 56 NAPA Brakes Toyota driver Martin Truex Jr. finished 25th in Saturday night's 400-lap NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Richmond International Raceway. Truex started eighth as Michael Waltrip Racing teammate Mark Martin led the field from the pole position.

The early stages saw the NAPA Brakes Toyota run comfortably in the top 10. As the race progressed, the No. 56 needed some major chassis changes to compete with the leaders on the long green-flag runs.

The NAPA team's race took a turn after a green-flag pit stop. Two laps after the NAPA Brakes Toyota returned to the track, NASCAR threw the yellow flag for debris. The untimely caution cost Truex two laps. Crew chief Chad Johnston implemented some late-race strategy in hopes of getting laps back, but it did not work out.

"It is disappointing," said Truex after the race. "We chose to try a few things and obviously, it didn't work out the way we expected. This is usually a good race for us and on the short runs, our car was fast. But on the long runs it wasn't and we saw a lot of long green-flag runs. It's unfortunate, but I'm happy to see that overall MWR continues to have speed. We produced two top-10 cars. We'll go back and figure out where we went wrong and be ready for Talladega next week. "

Meanwhile, in front of a NASCAR estimated crowd of 88,000, Kyle Busch beat Dale Earnhardt Jr. by 1.095 seconds for his first victory of the season. Rounding out the top-five were Tony Stewart, Denny Hamlin and Kasey Kahne.

Truex's top-25 finish moved him to fifth in the standings and just 22 points out of first.

Next Sunday, the NAPA AUTO PARTS team will be back restrictor-plate racing at Talladega Superspeedway.
